The United States Cabinet normally consisted of the fifteen major Departments of the Executive Branch, led by a Cabinet Secretary that directly reports to the President. What is each Department responsible for? What is their budget authority? What other Offices / Agencies are now considered part of the Cabinet? What other non-independent Agencies do they include?
Cabinet Departments started with our first President George Washington. What were those initial four Departments? Department of Defense (War)-1775, Department of State-1789, Department of Treasury-1789, & Department of Justice-1789. Why just these four? What authorized these Departments to be established?
